How to Create a Simple Funnel

Funnels send pre-determined content to your subscribers based on their preferences and actions. Also known as drip campaigns, autoresponder and automations, they're a key player when it comes to email automation.

Funnels can be as simple with only 1 email such as a welcome campaign, thank you email, or opt-in delivery or funnels can be complex with up to 500 emails in one campaign for email courses, product launches, sales funnels, resharing of older content and more.

Today we’ll walk you through setting up a simple, single-email funnel.

Key Steps Steps in Sending a Funnel Campaign:

1. Select the Campaign
2. Edit the Funnel Settings
3. Choose your Recipe
4. Build your Sequence
5. Grow your Funnel

Let's get started!

1. Select the Campaign

There are two places you can begin a new funnel as you'll see below. First is from your Site Dashboard, click New Campaign, and the second is from the left-hand menu, select Campaigns > New Campaign.

Both lead you here, where you'll select Funnel:

2. Edit the Funnel Settings

Start by giving your funnel a name and brief description. This is for your records, but keep in mind a subscriber will see the name of the funnel, should they unsubscribe.

Then edit or confirm the envelope settings. These will default to your original settings, but you're always welcome to change them if you prefer.

Adjust the tracking if you'd like then click Next to continue building your funnel.

3. Choose your Recipe

A recipe is a sequence template for a funnel campaign. You can Start from Scratch with a blank sequence, Clone the Sequence of another funnel you've created, or start with one of the recipes we've created for you:

We're going to build this funnel from scratch.

4. Build your Sequence

Now we're ready to start building our sequence! Starting from scratch, you'll see this screen with your first entry automatically created:

The entry name defaults to the name of your funnel.

Now before we start building, let's point out a few things on this screen.

First is schedule restrictions. This allows you to restrict days of the week your emails are sent and even set the time of day you prefer emails to go out. For example, if you're sending out multiple emails for an ecourse or sales funnel, you can skip over weekends (Saturday and Sunday) to ensure emails are sent on weekdays only, and set the time to when your audience is most likely to open and engage.

The next item we'll take a look at is your timing editor. This tells the event when it should take place, i.e. an email is sent immediately or days later, or a tag should be applied a day after an action is completed.

The last item we'll explore on this screen is testing your sequence. At any time during the building or editing phase, you can test the email sequence by entering your email address here. FeedBlitz will immediately send all emails to allow you to inspect your content on your devices.

Now let's get down to building your funnel. This drop-down is where you tell your funnel what should happen when a subscriber gets to this step of the funnel.

The default action is to send an email, however, you can see there are plenty of additional actions. Depending on which you choose, you can add additional actions to this entry or create separate entries for separate actions.

We're going to select Send Mail to open the email editor. This is where you can add and edit your content and set your subject line as well. Be sure to hit Save Article to close the editor.

You’ll see your email has been saved and added to your first entry.

To edit this action, hover over the item to see the pencil appear.

Clicking the pencil icon will open the editor pop-up for that item. (Each action has a different editor box.) You'll then be able to edit the action, in this case, the email, from here:

You can add up to 500 email entries for any funnel, with as many additional actions as you would like.

We're going to keep this funnel simple with only one email, but before wrapping up, be sure to test your funnel to make sure everything looks correct and all links are working properly.

Once everything has been set up, click Next for your confirmation page and Next again to be taken to the funnel's dashboard.

5. Grow your Funnel

From your dashboard you can scroll down to see where your engagement analytics will show once your funnel starts sending as well as where you can edit, test, pause, and even delete the funnel.

Further down the screen is where you can create a subscription form for the funnel or link this funnel to another mailing list.
